Calendar summaries
Day overview and prep without opening six tabs
Google Calendar can tell you what your day and week actually look like rather than making you read a grid and work it out.
Genuinely useful, with one significant caveat about what your plan includes.
What it can do
- Summarize your day in a sentence rather than a wall of blocks.
- Tell you where the gaps are, which is the thing you actually want to know.
- Flag the day this week that is overloaded.
- Pull the details out of an event, including the address and who else is on it.
Where the free route is better anyway
For household planning, screenshotting your week and pasting it into any chatbot is often better than the built-in summary. Not because the tool is worse, but because you can ask a much better question.
The calendar summary tells you what is on. The morning briefing prompt on this site tells you which three things matter, what to let go of, and whether tonight is a cooking night. That is a different and more useful answer, and it works on a free plan.
This is the general pattern with the Google AI features: convenient, well integrated, and less flexible than asking properly in a chat window.
One thing worth setting up
Turn on the daily agenda email in Calendar settings. It arrives each morning with your day in it, free, no AI plan needed.
That plus the morning briefing prompt is the whole system, and it costs nothing.
Availability
Meeting and calendar AI features sit inside the paid Google AI plans. The daily agenda email does not, and is available to anyone.
