The Boundary Script Writer

You said yes again. Not because you wanted to, but because the no did not arrive fast enough and by the time you found it you were already committed. The problem is rarely willingness. It is that nobody has the words ready in the moment.

Before you start

  1. Think of the actual asks coming at you, not hypothetical ones.
  2. Open Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini.
  3. Say them out loud after. A no you have never heard in your own voice is hard to deliver.

I say yes to things I don't want to do, and then I resent it. Help me practice saying no. I want words I would actually use, not assertiveness training. How I talk: - My natural tone: - How much explanation I usually give: - What I'm most afraid of when I say no: The asks I need words for: 1. 2. 3. For each one, give me: ✋ THE CLEAN NO One or two sentences. Polite, final, and with no opening for negotiation. No apology, no excuse, no explanation. This is the version I use when the answer is simply no. 🤝 THE WARM NO Same answer, softer delivery, for people I actually care about keeping close. Still no. 🔄 THE PARTIAL If there is a smaller version I could genuinely offer without resenting it, give me that. If there isn't, say so. Do not invent a compromise just to give me a third option. 🧱 IF THEY PUSH One line for when they do not accept it the first time. Same answer, no new reasons. Adding a reason invites a rebuttal. Then tell me: Which of these three is the one I'm most likely to fold on, based on what I told you about myself, and why. RULES: - Write these so they sound like me, not like a script. - Short. If I cannot remember it under pressure it is useless. - Do not pad the no with so much warmth that it stops being a no. - Do not tell me to "prioritize myself." Give me sentences.

Blanks you leave empty stay as brackets, so you can fill them in later.

What to expect

Three asks, four versions each, in language you would actually say out loud. The last part is the one people quote back: it tells you which no you are most likely to fold on before you are standing in it.

Pro tip

Save the clean no somewhere you can find it fast. Most of these get needed by text, in about four seconds of panic, and having one to paste is the difference between a boundary and another yes.
